Growing up in a small town, I did not have any exposure to track prior to high school. When freshman year came around, I was finally able to become a part of the high school track team. After only the first week, I determined that the 400 was going to be my race. Thanks to soccer, I had the endurance of a mid fielder and the speed of a striker.
After a successful freshman year, I went into my sophomore season with high hopes for improvement. Unfortunately, early in the season I got injured and had to miss out on the whole spring. After that, I knew I needed more time on the track and was determined to become a collegiate athlete.
I am strong and fast on the back stretch. I am coachable and I take direction and criticism well. I see every training session as a chance to better myself and I am willing to be uncomfortable for the sake of improvement. Every time I step off of the track I am proud because I know I have given the performance my full effort.
I am just as ambitious on the track as I am in the classroom. I am valedictorian of my class and I successfully balance my academic, athletic, and social life. I enjoy the challenge of rigorous Advance Placement courses. In addition to my studies, I hold leadership positions in my school as a Laker leader and National Honor Society President. I like to volunteer at my local church and athletic events as well.
I am hoping to attend a school in which I can be athletically and academically challenged and I am excited to see what I can accomplish in the future.
