My name is Reese Ensing, and I am a cross country and distance track runner for McBain High School. I have ran both these sports since seventh grade. As a freshman, I was on the varsity cross country and track team. For cross country, I was All-Conference (6th), All-Area, and was given the Best Newcomer Award. I helped my team become Highland Conference Champions, and also secured 3rd at Regionals in order to head to the Division 3 State Finals(9th) and earn Academic All-State. In track that year, my team was Conference Champs, and individually I was All-Conference (3200-4th). I also competed in Regionals (3200-12th) and the Cadillac News Honor Roll (3200-5th). For my sophomore year of cross country, I earned the Heart Award from my coach, All-Conference (6th), All-Region (12th), All-Area, and Academic All-State. My team was Conference Champs, 3rd at Regionals, 11th at the Division 3 State Finals, and Academic All-State. My sophomore track season was cancelled due to COVID-19, so I looked forward to my junior year of cross country. That season I was a captain, Academic All-State, All-Conference (8th), and was given the George Johnson Award, which is our school’s award when a student-athlete is dedicated to the sport they participate in. As a team, we again got 3rd at Regionals, got Academic All-State, and placed 17th at the Division 3 State Finals. For the track season of my junior year, which was just last track season, my team was once again Highland Conference Champions, and I got All-Conference individually (1600-6th, 3200-4th). I also raced at Regionals (3200-11th) and the Cadillac News Honor Roll (3200-6th). I am really looking forward to my senior year of running. I got into running because of my dad and now I love it so much. He ran in high school and college; therefore, he taught and gave me that work to run my own best. My mom and dad both taught me that first you have to have fun, or else it’s not worth the trouble doing it. They both also taught me work ethic, determination, and teamwork, which are both key for life and sports. I have learned from both cross country and track over the past 5 to 6 years of my life that I am capable of overcoming though obstacles, I have grown to be more confident in my abilities, and I will always give my best on any race, test, or anything. Running has become a wonderful part of my life that I will take with me wherever I go.
