Growing up, I never saw myself as a track and field collegiate athlete. My goal in life was to compete gymnastics at the collegiate level, but as I grew older, I wanted to participate in more than just gymnastics during my high school career. During my high school years, I have used my gymnastics skills not only on my high school gymnastics team, but have also developed skills in pole vault on my track team. I also started running the 300 low hurdles as my second event and have occasionally been part of a relay team. I am committed to making not only myself, but my teammates better as athletes and as people. I insert a positive role model philosophy into all that I do.
While others may have more advanced skills, I make up the difference by grit, determination and hard work. My hard work and determination paid off this past season as I was a crucial part of my gymnastics team's finish runner-up at the Michigan High School State finals, where I was an all-state vaulter. This perseverance also helped my track team earn their 7th consecutive Michigan Division 1 Regional Title and I would not quit until I broke my PR this season multiple times.
One thing that sets me apart from a lot of my teammates is that not only do I compete, but I also give back by working at a local sports club coaching young gymnasts and working as a camp counselor, which I have done for over 2 years. I started working to help my mom pay for my gymnastics training, but found a sense of responsibility and fulfillment by working. Juggling two sports, a challenging academic schedule and work, I believe that I have the skills that will make me ready for college and being a student-athlete on a track team. My goal in college is to graduate with a degree in business, so I am looking for a school that has a strong business program as well as a positive, goal-driven track team.
