"Good, better, best. Never let it rest. Till your good is better and your better is the best." I don't know who said this but I have it written on my mirror to remind myself to always keep improving and to never give up. Throughout my Jr. and Sr. high school career I have stayed true to this motto through many trials and tribulations. In 6th grade, I began throwing and I had a coach who knew nothing about it but was my biggest cheerleader. Every day he told me that I would break 30 feet in the shot by 8th grade and every day I would tell him I couldn't do it. He passed away the summer before my 8th-grade year. I didn't think I would ever reach his goal for me. That was until the last meet of my 8th-grade season, and on my last throw, I got that shot 30 feet and 11 inches. This kick-started my passion for throwing weapons of war. A passion nothing will get in the way of.
Next came high school, and my many injuries became obstacles to overcome. Freshman year I broke my dominant wrist two days before my first meet. However, I wanted to throw in my first high school meet so bad a taught myself through rain and shine how to throw with my other hand. I made it all the way to state that season and had a cast on my dominate hand the entire time. Sophomore year came around and with it was severe shoulder pain in my dominant side. I threw through it with the help of a brace and made it all the way to state again. That time around I had the great pleasure of a massive PR and a second-place finish. Junior year proved to be even more difficult as I had SLAP tear repair surgery 6 months to the date before track season. I was finally pain-free, but with five screws in my dominant sholder, I was weak and not in the best of shape. The season was not full of the PRs in the shot that I had hoped but I still managed to podium at state in both shot and disc. Looking back on my junior season, it wasn't my best, but man did I work hard to get where I did. Up next, is senior year and it is looking so bright I might need a welding helmet. I am pain-free and am getting into the best shape of my life. Athletically and academically my goals are set high and I am ready to give it my best and to never let it rest.
