Hi! My name is Memphys Meier. Growing up, little did I know I would eventually fall in love with running. Now, not just want to do once in a while, it was something I started to crave, it was something I needed everyday. One of the things I love is the adrenaline when competing. Getting up to the line and hearing, “Runners to your mark…” is one of the best feelings. I began running in 6th grade and immediately fell in love with it the more I continued to do it. I decided I wanted to continue through my middle school years, and made the decision to continue it in high school as well. I shocked myself my freshman year by making it to state for cross country, second for the team. I also ended up achieving my goal of getting all state my freshman year. I decided track would be good to do. The minute I began track in high school it was the best thing to happen to me. Track is my love, and something that just brings me pure happiness. I made it to state track freshman year, and had the best time not only competing, but spending time with my amazing team. Sophomore year began and I was ready more than ever to demolish the season. Unfortunately, I started getting severe hip pain, and was only able to run three meets that season. I finished the rest of the season up as the “manager” still enjoying time with my team, then decided I wanted to run at state. I took time off after cross country, then began training for my favorite time of the year… track. Track began and my hip pain was back but in the other hip. We began searching for answers doing seriously everything, and not getting anything. I ran the whole season, made it state, and as I was on my last lap of the mile, my left hip gave out. I was broken. I took time off then began training for cross, and still pain. We decided to go through one more MRI. Turns out I tore my labrum this whole time. I have not been able to run my junior year of cross country, but am ready to absolutely demolish for track this year. One of the biggest things keeping me going during all of this is my team. I mean that with everything in me… they took my mind off the fact I couldn’t run with them, and made every trip, day, meet, and night enjoyable. Going through a year long injury hasn’t been the easiest thing in any way. But it has taught me many lessons and given me just a huge fire to get back at it. I’ve learned so much about my body and what it needs to compete at its best ability. As crazy as it sounds, I thank God for putting me what I went through. I wouldn’t have learned anything without that happening, my team, my parents, and God.
