Not only am I a track athlete I am also a gymnast too. For the past 7 years I have been competing in gymnastics competitively. Last season I was the all around champion at the Provincial Championships and Atlantic Championships. I also was the Eastern Canadian vault champion at the Eastern Canadians and received the highest vault score in Canada for my level; open level 4. I am also on the 2015 Canada games training team for gymnastics and will hopefully be able to represent team New Brunswick at the games in February of 2015.
My training schedule is very busy, currently I am training 23 hours a week for gymnastics which includes 2 morning practices before school and I am still able to achieve good marks in school. Also I can speak two languages: English and French. I have been in the French immersion program since grade 6 and will graduate with a bilingual status. Because of my gymnastics training schedule, it has interfered with my ability to attend track practices and I would love to focus more on track and field in University. Two summers ago, I tried pole vault for the first time and within two weeks I was able to reach a personal best of 2.55m and won a silver medal at the Canadian National Youth Track and Field Championship; However I did not get the chance to continue pole vaulting because of my gymnastics training schedule. I have made many sacrifices over the years because I chose not to miss practices. For example, I have never been to a high school dance or a high school football game because I have always had practices on the same nights. I believe dedication is a very important key to success.
At the National level I won three bronze medals for long jump: one at the Canadian Indoor Championships in March of 2014, the other at the Canadian Youth track and field championships in August of 2013 and I received the other bronze medal at the Canadian Indoor Championships in February this year. In May 2014 my high school received the privilage to attend the Nike Grand Prix in Toronto and at the competition I won two silver medals: one in 100m hurdles (first time ever running that event) and the other in long jump. Over the years I have set provincial records in the 100m hurdles,200m hurdles, 300m hurdles and pole vault. I also set the 100m hurdle record, 300m hurdle record, and the 400m hurdle record for provincial high schools. All of these records still stand. Currently I am the number one long jumper in Atlantic Canada in all age categories and I also have the fastest hurdle times for my age group.
Also, for the past 4 years I have been named Female MVP for track and field for my age group in my track club and in grades nine, ten, and eleven and twelve I have been named female MVP for track and field for my high school. This year I recieved the destinction in one sport award for track and field which is a major award my high school gives out every year. Also for the province of New Brunswick I have been nominated as Female Athlete of the year for 2012, 2013 and 2014 and received this award in 2012.
In University, I would like to take sciences and eventually become a veterinarian. Ever since I was a little girl I loved the idea of working with animals and saving their lives. Being able to do sciences and compete in my favorite sport at a collegiate level would be a dream come true.
