My name is Kendall Barton. I have been an athlete for as long as I can remember. Following in my sister's footsteps, I started competitive gymnastics at age 6, though I had be in classes since I was 2 years old. I loved gymnastics! I was a competitive gymnast for 10 years, ending my gymnastics career as a Regionals Qualifier/Level 9 gymnast. When I was in fifth grade, my sister Hannah, also a competitive gymnast, was convinced to try pole vault. Hannah has always been one of my biggest role models, following her pole vault journey inspired me to begin my own. I started pole vaulting as a freshman, I had my ups and downs but continued to always keep a good attitude and not let it affect others. I believe in supporting my teammates every step of the way, and you'll often hear me cheering my team on loud and clear. My sister Hannah was my pole vault coach my freshman year, but during my sophomore year she was away at basic training for the National Guard. I then realized I needed to step up and help coach and motivate the new pole vault girls. Together, we worked hard and were proud to end our season as the Division 1, NH State, 2nd Place Women's Track Team.
Balancing athletics and academics is not new for me. As a competitive gymnast, it was important for me to learn how to manage my time and homework. School has not been an easy path for me. I struggled in reading for years. In 6th grade, my parents set up educational testing and we learned I had dyslexia. I don't use my dyslexia as a crutch. It is part of who I am. Through my high school journey, I have learned importance of communication and share my learning challenges with my teachers. Together we make a plan. I can do anything. It just may take me a bit longer or I might need to hear it or see it in a different way. It is because of this journey that I am excited to pursue a major in physical therapy for children with special needs. I want to take my love of athletics and combine it to help rehab young people. I also have an interest in psychology.
I am a dedicated student and athlete with a fun loving sense of humor. I look forward to joining a team and college that will help coach me and guide me toward my goals.
