“It’s not whether you get knocked down, it’s whether you get up.” - Vince Lombardi
Reconstructive ankle surgery was just a minor set back for me. It may have stopped me from competing high school gymnastics, but it did not stop me from being a competitor. It only made me work harder. Unable to run hurdles, high jump, and long jump, I continued to attended workouts. It was at that time that I picked up a javelin and threw it. I was still in my ankle boot, and I was hooked.
I worked hard to rehab and once cleared, I started to focus on javelin. Breaking the hundred foot mark and making top five in state sectionals, would be considered my personal highlight thus far.
Working alongside my teammates and getting better as a team, is what I am looking forward to this upcoming winter and spring season.
Attending a college that will allow me to pursue a nursing degree, and continue to compete, is my goal.
Being one of five children with my two older brothers attending college now, has set the standard high in our home. I plan on living up to that standard through the love and support of my parents and four brothers. I plan to succeed and follow in their footsteps with hard work, dedication, and determination both inside and outside of the classroom.
