Hi, I'm Emily :) I am a very goal-oriented person, I hold high expectations for myself. I never settle for less. Participating in sports my entire life, I have a very solid balance between academics, athletics, work, as well as my social life. I am a natural born leader with a radiating vibe of positivity, I am always a good teammate.
I had never even heard of javelin until my 8th grade year and I thought to myself, "this would be something fun to do." I started throwing javelin as a freshman with no coach. I taught myself from YouTube videos. I ended up my freshman season throwing 91ft 3in, almost beating my school record. I would go to track practices and teach myself technique as well as throwing tips. With the proper coaching, which I plan on having soon, I can definitely excel further than before!
I work two jobs, one at Target and the other at a local chiropractor. I also have over 450 volunteer hours since freshman year, mostly with the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention and Buddy Ball, a recreational program to help special needs children play sports. I am very involved in my community. I am also on the NJ Department of Health Statewide Youth Council. I also received the Presidential Volunteer Award as well as three Congressional Volunteer Awards and six Mayor Youth Volunteer Awards.
I plan on majoring in sports psychology and cognitive sciences. My goal is to become a sports psychologist. Academically, I like to challenge myself and take many electives. I withhold a strong GPA with my current junior year GPA being a 96.5.
As much as my competitiveness wants me to perform at the top level, academics are very much a priority to me when it comes to college. I hope to continue my achievements on the field as well in the classroom at the collegiate level.
