Personal Statement

Although making it to Nationals for Long jump in 8th grade has been a huge highlight, I feel as though I have grown the most my sophomore year and junior year of high school track and field. I have become independent and I am starting to take my experiences and apply them to the next chapter of my high school career. Even with my experiences in school and on the track, my brothers are what have made me the person I am to this day. My oldest brother is autistic and when we were younger I never really understood autism, but I did know that he needed help and I could apply what ever I knew to try and help him learn. My second oldest brother is the one I have grown the closest to.  At the age of six he was diagnosed as a type one diabetic and he taught me all about his disease as we grew up. Without his personality and this drastic life altering change, I wouldn't be as strong or as understanding today. I always look at things as it could be worse, but the only way to prevent that is to become stronger and fight back with all or nothing. Becoming a senior in High School has forced me to take a glance at my past performances and to really focus on growing to be a better person. Even with the help of my big brothers I have a lot to learn and grow from, this is only the next step in my life.

Being the child in the family that has not yet had a life altering diagnosis has pushed me to do things I am fortunate enough to do. In track and field I strive to be better than my past performances, every meet, every opportunity I am allowed, I take. Even before I step on that track, I make a goal to look forward to.

Off the track I am taking the opportunity to partake in a class in school about Forensics. I have yet to determine if that is going to become a part of my learning experience in collage, but for now I have always had my heart set on being a photographer. I want to spread the word and awareness of destructive events and capturing the life that continues to fade into extinction. The second collegiate goal is to become an ASL interpreter. This is a topic of study that has always peeked my interest just like track and field does.

My NCAA code is now; 192098589 and 1901405007.
