Dear Coach,
My name is Amanda Dwyer. I am a Junior at Shoreham Wading River High School in Shoreham Wading River, NY. I began running cross country in my freshman year as a hobby, as a way to keep in shape for basketball and lacrosse. I quickly fell in love with the sport, disciplined lifestyle and commitment it commands. I decided to give up the other sports I had played since I was a little girl and pursue running full time. I have incorporated into my life a very healthy and nutritional diet along with intense training that I feel will assist me in reaching my goals and full potential.
I trained extremely hard during the summer of 2014 going into my sophomore year. Although coaches new that I was a new runner and had decided to fully commit to running, I somewhat surprised them with my times in the 5K. I have continued to train extremely hard and feel that I have only scratched the surface in terms of reaching my full physical ability, as well as mastering the strategic and psychological aspects of running.
Unfortunately, I was hampered by mononucleosis in the middle of the 2015 cross country season and winter track of this year. I was limited as to my training and competition. With some prescribed rest by my doctor I am currently healthy and will be running with my SWR team in the 4 x 1 mile at the indoor winter track nationals on March 11th. Upon completion of this event I will continue my training for the upcoming 2016 Spring track season.
I have read about your college and running program. I would be honored to have the opportunity to possibly become a part of it. This upcoming season will be of the utmost importance to me in terms of the level of my success. My times will obviously impact greatly the level of interest I receive from colleges. Regardless, I truly believe I have much to offer, not only as an athlete, but as a student, friend, teammate and overall positive contributor to society.
Academically, I am an honor roll student in the top percentage of my 2017 graduating class. I am a member of the National Junior Honor Society. I anticipate becoming a member of the National Honor Society come May of this year. I have been a proud member of The Girl Scouts of America since I was 8 years old and will soon earn the highest and most prestigious "Gold Award". I recently was selected by my peers to represent SWR High School at Natural Helpers. Natural Helpers is a national program. Those selected are a cross section of students identified through an anonymous school wide survey. Ideally, those chosen are representatives of all the subgroups in the school community and are invited to participate in the Natural Helpers program.
I hope you will follow my progress this upcoming season. It certainly would be an honor to meet with you, visit your campus and potentially become a student/athlete at your university. My coach's name at SWR High School is Paul Koretzki. Mr. Koretzki can be reached at 631-553-2853 and his email is [email protected]
Thank you very much for your time and consideration.
Sincerely,
Amanda Brooke Dwyer
