I am currently a junior at Shoreham Wading River High School, in Shoreham, NY on Long Island, and have been running on the varsity level XC, Indoor and Outdoor Track teams since eighth grade. I have enjoyed many sports including travel soccer, swimming and basketball, alongside running. I participated for many years in our Community Programs Summer Track program - which I now volunteer for - helping organize and teach young children about running. I really enjoy sharing my passion for running and encouraging them. I have always felt the most confident and free when running.
I am planning to continue my running career on the collegiate level in order to reach my potential as an athlete. I know I will be an asset to any college program and I desire the opportunity to contribute to the success of a team. I work very hard every day to perfect my form, technique and strategies for race day. I strive to run my personal best in every competition. I am looking for a collegiate experience that will challenge me and provide me with new skills and strengths. I am also very team oriented, focusing on doing my part to benefit my teammates and value the strength of a close, inspiring team, and being a source of a positive attitude on the team. I am grateful for having been awarded MVP on my team for multiple seasons and have been chosen to be a Captain next year.
Throughout the seasons on the varsity level, I have achieved First Team All County and All League Honors, which have been goals set by myself and my coaches. Running at the State and National Meet levels has also been part of my experience during my high school running career and is something I am especially proud of. In fact, my XC Team finished 4th in NY State in Class B. Competition is something that exhilarates and challenges me. It is a part of who I am in many areas of my life. I am blessed to come from a family of runners and coaches. I have confidence in my work ethic and in the fact that my best running times are ahead of me.
I am equally passionate about academics and learning. I challenge myself by taking honors and AP courses, and work hard to obtain good grades. The college experience that will be the best fit for me, is one that provides both support and expectation. I am a member of the National Honor Society and have been on the Honor Roll throughout my school career. In addition to running and studying I make time to help others through volunteering as I mentioned above. I have participated in the Nexus Club in my school, which is a community service club. Through spending time volunteering at Veteran’s homes, Animal shelters, and visiting with the elderly, we give back to our community and make a difference.
To attend a college that affords me the opportunity to set and achieve high academic, career and athletic goals is my priority. I know I possess the strength of character and core values that will propel me to success. I am looking forward to contributing to a strong XC-Track and Field program as well as to my overall college community.
