Personal Statement

Running has always been a part of my life, from outrunning my cat in the woods when I was eight, to finishing first in my first modified cross country race. When I was a modified athlete I always expected to run varsity Track and Cross Country, but I never imagined myself reaching out to colleges and talking to my coaches about going to States. The switch flipped two weeks into my 10th-grade cross country season when I was told I had my second stress fracture in two years. I had to take a step back and question how I approached running. At some point during this self-evaluation, I questioned if I even wanted to run anymore. Almost immediately after wondering this, I threw that question out the window. I realized how big of an impact track and cross country had made on my life. I realized how much I missed my teammates. I realized how much I really wanted to be a good athlete. My injuries may have held me back, but they also helped me fall in love with my sports and my teams.

In order to truly succeed in these sports, I knew I had to make changes to my lifestyle. This started with my diet. I started eating a lot more, along with focusing on healthier options and incorporating supplemental drinks to fully ensure I was getting the required nutrition. I then stared Indoor Track to help build my strength. Both of these factors combined with more awareness of my body have helped me achieve the success I was looking for. Last Track season I took close to six seconds off of my 400 time, and this year I have significantly improved my 5k and 600 times. My goal for this Track season had been to get my 400 to 60 seconds, and while this goal may have to wait until next year with the current situation, I am determined to improve my times in what remains of this year's Track season. In college, I hope to find teams with strong feelings of comradery, supportiveness, and overall friendship. Having missed out on parts of my high school seasons, I want to make the most of the time I have to run on a team.

In addition to running, I am extremely interested in biology, drawing, painting, music, human rights, and topics related to equality. I am interested in the study of infectious disease, and more specifically the pathology and physiological effects of diseases. I am extremely excited to go to college and focus more on the things I love. I look forward to speaking with any college coaches further!

NCSA COLLEGE RECRUITING®

NCSA College Recruiting® (NCSA) is the nation’s leading collegiate recruiting source for more than 500,000 student-athletes and 42,000 college coaches. By taking advantage of this extensive network, more than 92 percent of NCSA verified athletes play at the college level. The network is available to high school student-athletes around the country through valued relationships with the NFLPA, FBU, NFCA and SPIRE. Each year, NCSA educates over 4 million athletes and their parents about the recruiting process through resources on its website, presentations of the critically-acclaimed seminar College Recruiting Simplified, and with Athletes Wanted, the book written by NCSA founder Chris Krause.
