My name is Madelyn Vandermeer and I am a grade 12 student (2022-2023) at Acton District School located in Acton, Ontario. I am a hardworking, well-rounded student and athlete that is looking to continue athletics beyond high school while pursuing an academic career in Medical Science. Throughout my years in high school, I have diligently worked to maintain a high average, which has resulted in multiple awards for Academic Excellence and my place as an Honour's Society Award Recipient for my grade 9, 10, and 11 years. Additionally, I frequently participate in volunteer work within my community through my church and school. I currently act as a Student crew leader for grade 9 students, manage my church's Instagram page, and run a faith-based small group for high school girls in my area with the intention of creating community and discussing everyday struggles.
I have been actively playing sports since the age of 7 when I began running cross-country. Throughout my years as a school athlete, I have almost every sport imaginable (volleyball, badminton, ultimate frisbee - you name it) and have more competitively competed as a cross-country and track athlete. Although I did not join my track club until grade 9, I have been dedicated to this sport ever since I was allowed to compete through my grade school. One of my favourite parts of athletics is the ability to improve my own performance while also creating deep, supportive relationships with those on my team. I look forward to competing as a cross-country athlete this fall (I have been unable to compete since grade 9 due to the Covid-19 pandemic and an ankle injuery) and am working hard to improve my track and field results for the current outdoor season.
