My collegiate goal as a student athlete is to be a leader and major contributor to the college I attend.
Having experienced a number of injury set backs, I have believe I have matured well beyond my age and have a positive perspective on life that would be an asset to any team and coach.
I look at things differently now and appreciate every day I am healthy and can focus on the tasks of the day more clearly. People say everything happens for a reason and I truly believe that. I believe I am stronger both physically and mentally. Since the injuries, I have been training and lifting 3 times a week with Ron DeAngelo at the UPMC Sports Performance center and on my own. I have learned that the key to my success is to keep my body healthy and strong. From the mental side, I have learned to focus on the positives in life because there is no need for the negatives. Now I play and run every game/race like it’s my last because you never know what tomorrow brings.
Although I have always been blessed with speed, I never had a chance to do it competitively until 8th grade. I clearly remember my first track meet. As I approached the starting line for he 100 meter sprint, the other girls were wearing spikes and were getting into starting blocks. Since I had no clue, I had to start standing up. I was a good 5-10 meters behind everyone at the start of the race but then things completed changed by the half way point. Who would have guessed that I would run my first 100 meter race in 12.6 seconds!
After a successful season of track, I continued to use my speed as an asset and played AAU basketball that summer. I was named an All Star of the US Junior Nationals Pool FFF at the season ending Nike tournament in Washington, DC.
My goals are to attend a college where I will be pushed as much as possible both academically and athletically. For the 100 meters, I strive to run under 12 seconds, for the 200 meter to run under 25 seconds.
I am a leader in the classroom as well as on the track. I am also very coach-able and motivated; I strive to do my best in any task, no matter how large or small. I am very approachable and am always in the mood to have fun and enjoy a good laugh!
