After 15 years of gymnastics I decided to close that chapter and open a new one to the world of Pole Vaulting. Sports have been my life for as long as I can remember. They are a time for me to step away from the world and do something I love and am so passionate about. Transitioning sports is never easy but I took it head on. Jumping 9'6" at my first pole vault meet in June of 2021 led me to set the goal of reaching 11' by the end of the summer. I did everything I could to reach that goal. I never missed a single practice and would attend every meet just so I could get another "under my belt" and gain experience. I would drive up to additional practices an hour away, just so I could gain an extra day of training. The benefit of those practices was that I received lots of individual attention. The other athlete I trained with is a college vaulter so getting tips and skills from her was always helpful. She was a mentor for me and I often look towards my peers for help when I do not understand something the coach is explaining. Driving this extra hour was never a punishment. I love Pole Vaulting, I love the thrill of it and how different it is. Signing up for the last meet of the season I remembered I had set the goal of 11' at the beginning of the summer. I showed up and all that hard work paid off when I jumped 11'.25" after only 2 months of Pole Vaulting. I have the determination and drive and once I set a goal I do everything I can to achieve it. In college my goal would be to jump 13'. I love pole vaulting and I want to be able to do it for as long as I can. I want to be able to give it my all in college, just like in high school.
