I knew I had what it took to be a track athlete when I fell jumping over a hurdle during my first meet in junior high and still won the race. At that moment, I realized I had the heart to be a winner. Even though this was a defining moment, me becoming an All-American, placing 7th at the 2018 Junior Olympics at Drake University after only triple jumping for one season solidified my belief that I could complete collegiately.
Coming off that amazing feat, I knew that my junior year would be the greatest thus far. However, that was not the case as I sat out for over half the season and me not meeting the goals that I set for myself. Not running for six weeks made me realize how much I loved and cherished track. While running track for the past 5 years, one thing I have learned about myself is that I’m a perfectionist who expects that everything I do be correct the first attempt. I have also come to realize that even when it is not right that I must not let it affect me and use it to only push me to work harder.
My academic goals for high school are the maintain or increase my 3.43 core gpa and continue to strive to be the best student I can be. My academic plans for college is to attain my Bachelor’s degree in either Kinesiology or Criminal Justice with honors.
My talent, drive for perfection, determination to be the best athlete I can be, and my work-ethic makes me a top notch candidate for college athletics.
