I fell in love with track and field during my first year competing in 6th grade. Running against the clock and constantly improving is what drives me. I have experienced highs and lows in this sport, but the most important lesson I’ve learned is patience with myself and the process. I’ve been blessed to earn a spot in the Virginia Beach Regional Track and Field event every year since 6th grade and place in the top 10, as well as being named MVP my Freshman and Sophomore years and winning the Coach’s Award for leadership. There are still accomplishments that allude me, which humble me to work harder and be better and enable me to compete well on a college level.
My collegiate goals are to push myself intellectually and apply the knowledge and experiences I gain to life after college. I love learning and view my academic success equally as important as athletics. During my freshman, sophomore and junior year, I have been able to balance AP classes, and being a National Honor Society member with track and field and soccer. Being a two-sport has taught me the key skills of communication, flexibility, coachability and being a great team player. All has shown me the value of having a great work ethic. I’m never satisfied with where I am academically or athletically as I feel there is always more to be obtained. Being comfortable is not enough for me and I feel this mindset will carry me far beyond sports and made me the co-captain of my team. Track and field is viewed as an individual sport, but the team dynamic is important to me because I feel we can all push each other. That outlook and those values would make a positive, immediate impact in your program. I can be the leader you need for your team!
