At the start of my freshman year, I would never have expected myself to take an interest in running. Up until high school, I did soccer, but when my freshman year came around, I wanted to try something new. At first, I was struggling to keep up with everyone else on the team, but I persisted, wanting to at least see the first season through. When the first race came around, it paid off. I came in fourth place, surprising myself. Throughout the course of the season, I improved, thanks to my helpful coaches, my wonderful teammates, and my supportive parents, and in my freshman year I qualified for states in both cross country and track. I would never have made it this far if it weren't for them. Although I am only starting my junior of high school, I'm hoping to get a head start so it can be easier to find a college that suits me academically and athletically.
Although I haven't faced many hardships at home, I still strive to please everyone around me. In fact, I believe that I am a major setback to myself, as I am rather self-critical. With cross country and track, I always wish to make my coaches and parents proud. My parents have been extremely supportive of me through the thick and the thin of my life, helping me to recognize the right from the wrong in my actions. Athletics has helped me acknowledge on top of this that I don't always need to think how others feel about my actions, but to rather do things for myself on occasion. Thanks to cross country and track, I have felt more confident in myself and my abilities.
I'm looking for a college with a strong program in biology, since I would like to work towards having a job in the field of medical laboratory science or molecular diagnostics. I put academics above sports, and I am willing to go to a college that suits my academic needs, even if it means I won't get the opportunity to run for a college team.
