Continuing my athletic career in college is a must. Everyone has to start their career somewhere, and this is how I started...
I have been on the varsity teams for cross country, curling, and track since freshman year. I am a junior this year and I was voted by my teammates to be one of two captains for the girls cross country team for the 2019 and 2020 seasons. I was also voted by my coaches as a captain for my curling team in the upcoming season of 2020-2021.
On my track team I am part of the distance crew. I am one of two returning members this year so my team of 6 newbies look to me as the team leader. I organized team dinners for the first time this year, because in past years our team was too small. Now our team is closer than ever & I feel proud because at the beginning of the season I didn't even know their names.
The past two summers to keep in shape I have been busy weight training four days out of the week, biking the seven miles in and out of town to my house, and participate in community runs in town. On top of that, my summer job is working for Portage Park and Rec. I teach kids from ages 3-12 how to play sports like baseball, soccer, and tennis.
I am very coachable as I have been to many curling camps over the past few summers and love to stay positive. This year I participated in a running Camp at UW Stevens Point with three of my teammates. After the five day camp in July, we ran our very first half marathon in Baraboo, WI the day after. My teammates questioned if we should do the half marathon the day after, and I told them, "When else are we gonna do it? We will be in the best condition we ever have so lets do it and have fun!"
Outside of sports, I participate in several other clubs. I have been in 4-H(non-school related) since I was seven years old. I have learned leadership, communication, and public speaking skills through this club and I am regularly volunteering for community service hours. I was inducted into Spanish Honors Society and National Honors Society this year. I also participate in spanish club, band, and honors study hall.
I am proud to say that I have a 4.0 GPA as this is very difficult because I am very busy after school. I put in at least two hours a day for whichever sport I am in at the time, and then go home and study for another hour or two, and still find time to hang out with friends or family.
My future is somewhere in the medical field. I have my mind on sports medicine, exercise science, or kinesiology. I am taking exercise science as one of my classes now and plan to take sports medicine, sports history, and psychology next year. Hopefully this will show me what I like and don't like so that I know what I want to do in the future.
