Playing volleyball at a collegiate level has always been a dream of mine. I am a very competitive person whether it is at family game night or on the volleyball court. I have always had the drive to win and the want to: I have always wanted to get better and never settle for anything less. My high-school volleyball coach always has told us that all you can give is 100% and as long as every person on the court is giving their 100% we will win. I can say that every time I have stepped on the volleyball court I have given 100%. I want to give 100% on the collegiate level. I understand that giving 100% doesn't mean not ever making a mistake but it means to fix that mistake in another area of the game and not letting that one mistake define the rest of the game. I was chosen as captain of the volleyball team my senior year. Being captain has shown me things I can take with me to the next level. It taught me how to have respect for my teammates and how no matter the pass or set or hit they may make to always make sure to pick them up. I learned how to be a leader; it showed me that when I make a decision I am not the only one it will effect it will also effect the whole team. One thing that I feel like makes me different from other athletes and students is that my sophomore year of high school I missed over 30 days of school due to an illness. I did not let that illness define me or hold me back. My eleventh grade year I worked hard to recover and make sure I stayed on top of my grades and sports. I can proudly say that the hard work paid off and I was inducted into the National Beta Club my eleventh grade year, I also worked hard to make a travel volleyball team. I was also inducted into the National Honor Society my senior year. I maintain a 3.5+ GPA playing volleyball, basketball and travel volleyball. Nobody made me want to work harder, I did it for myself because I want to excel in everything I do. That is why I think that I am different from other athletes, I overcome the adversities and situations that happen and instead of letting it define my career I use it to become a better athlete and student.
