My name is Kalin Cargill, and I am currently a sophomore at Fairmont Preparatory Academy in Anaheim, California, graduating in 2023. I started volleyball in the third grade, I have been an opposite for the past two years, and a setter for the past three years. As a seventh and eighth grader, my team won back-to-back championships. I was team captain in eighth grade, and have been a member of my school’s Student Body (ASB) for two years. For the last two years, I have made the varsity team, and am also on a 16s team at Tstreet in Irvine, California.
I am interested in playing college volleyball because I love the sport and enjoy being on a team where I can meet new people. I enjoy playing volleyball because it has helped me gain self-confidence and motivated me to stay active. It has expanded my interests in self-care, such as staying hydrated, nutrition, stretching and body recovery. This past year I have learned how to promote myself through creating highlight reels, contacting college coaches, networking skills, and time management. During Covid-19, I have been able to juggle school, ASB, two volleyball teams and kept my grade point average at a 3.7 out of 4.0. I believe these will be valuable tools needed for college and in my future architecture career.
