Throughout my life I have always enjoyed physical activities that keep me healthy and busy. My name is Krista Martin and I have been playing volleyball since 5th grade with 8 years of school ball experience and 3 years of club experience, 2 in area, 1 in travel, and currently in my second year of travel.
However, my volleyball journey has not always been easy growing up with a single mother and four sisters. We live in Kettleman City, which is a rural area where everything is 30 miles away, including my volleyball club. I worked very hard to overcome that obstacle by managing my time well. I was able to maintain a high GPA even though there were many late nights after practice. My mother has been my role model and my biggest motivation to work hard in everything I do, and she shaped me into the person I am now.
Not only do I want to further my volleyball career, but I also want a future career as a nurse. To me, having a career in the health care field means having the opportunity to help those in need which has always been in my nature. Not only do I want to be helpful medically but I have also applied those habits on the court by motivating my team. I know how much of a mental game volleyball can be so I help bring the positivity up within my teammates.
Nevertheless, volleyball has helped me immensely. Even though it may be a struggle at times, I am always searching for ways to have a positive mindset about the sport. I can’t wait to continue the sport I love and go as far as possible. I will continue working hard towards this goal.
