I love volleyball! It’s so hard, but it’s so much fun! I love competing against other great teams, but I also love being part of a group of people with a common goal to be the best. My teammates are my closest friends because we have gone through so much together. When we’re exhausted in the third set, we can always count on each other to pick each other up, pull together, and get the next point. And when we do win a close match in the third set, the exhilaration of celebrating with these girls are the best feeling ever!
I love the physical challenge of volleyball. Working out by myself during non-practice days may not be fun, but I know it will help my endurance in all-day tournaments. I also love the mental challenge of volleyball. During pool plays, I like to watch the other teams when my team is not playing so I can study their strategy and learn how their hitters like to attack. And when I make that crucial dig to save a point during the game, I know my mental preparation has paid off.
I’ve learned so much from volleyball that I know it will help me in college. I’ve become self-reliant, more confident, and better at time management because of volleyball. I had to, in order to maintain my 4.16 GPA while taking Honors and AP classes. I like to push myself academically so I can be prepared for college courses. Playing volleyball in college would be a dream come true for me. It would mean that I can keep doing something that I love, while at the same time pursuing my other goal of getting my Bachelor’s Degree in Biology. My ultimate goal is to work in a health-related field.
