Hello, my name is Jacqueline Witteman and I am currently attending Laguna Beach High School, and am now a senior. I am taking 2 AP classes this year. School is fully back in person and I am busy studying and working on after school activities. I am involved in a coding club called IC2020. We are designing online games for educational use. I have club volleyball practice 3 times a week and high school volleyball 3-4 times a week. My Varsity indoor season (2020-2021) was great, as we were undefeated League Champs. Due to covid, it was a short season out on the beach, and even though it wasn't our normal season, I'm really proud of our accomplishments. My club season went great and we qualified for the PVL right away (Premier Volleyball League.) (17-1s). We finished the season going 8-3 in Orlando, FL.
Over the summer going into my junior year, I took an online math course from Stanford University. It was so amazing and I learned so much. I plan to study Engineering in College and have goals of working in a STEM field.
I had a fantastic high school volleyball season (2019) before COVID-19 and was pulled up to Varsity for CIF. I had the most blocks on the team and the third highest in kills. At the banquet I received the Coaches Award. My school is very small with only 1,068 students attending. Last year there were 5 Seniors graduating from the program and 4 of them went on to play Division 1 volleyball in College. We play in Division 1 Southern Section.
I first started playing volleyball with my mom, who used to be a setter in college. Then, I started playing club volleyball when I was 12 years old and I instantly fell in love. I enjoy the friendships, support, and overall sense of togetherness that a team has. Through playing volleyball, I have learned what it means to be on a team and that there is always someone there to support and encourage another. I strive to be the one on the team that encourages others and cheers them on. Whenever we are down or have a negative mindset during a game, I try to cheer my teammates up and think positively. I have a passion for the sport and strong mindset to be the best player and teammate I can be. I believe volleyball has made me a better person, more outgoing and more confident. I love the way volleyball brings people together.
I am looking for a competitive program where I can pursue my passion for math and science and my love for volleyball. I can't imagine not playing and having that team/family connection. I can't wait to be at school, work hard, and go after my dreams.
