My name is Amber Bowling and I am a senior setter and opposite hitter from Red Bluff, Ca. I am a strong student and a strong athlete. I live in the country with my grandparents, my sister and my two French bulldogs. In my free time, I enjoy painting, working out, kayaking, running, spending time with friends and family, and traveling. My biggest goal is to find school where I can pursue one of my preferred majors as well as keep the volleyball dream alive. Ncsa has given me a chance to find colleges that are able to aide me on my journey.
Volleyball has been an outlet in my life where the stress of day to day challenges completely leaves my thoughts and all my efforts are focused on the game in front of me. Since fifth grade when I started peppering with my best friend in the yard, I knew this sport was going to be special to me. To this day, volleyball pushes me mentally and physically to go further than I thought possible. This push to become a better setter and person I can’t imagine living without after high school. I am an extremely hard working person both academically and on the court. Playing college volleyball has been so important to me that I cant think of a better future than the opportunity to leave my heart on the court for my teammates and my education.
I envision my level of performance at college to elevate the school athletically and academically while optimizing myself. I’ve learned the application of grit and forming bonds with others is the key to success. I have grown my sense of passion and innovativeness in the perspective of the classroom and in life. Because of the love I have for my community and helping others, I began the Women Supporting Women (W.S.W.) Organization. It is non-profit and consists of thirty teenaged girls who want to leave our local businesses and first responders feeling appreciated no matter the outcomes of COVID-19. The girls and I have done countless projects including positive messages on telephone poles, personal letters to businesses most affected, dollar off discounts at the local coffee shop I work at for all First Responders, and toy drives at the animal shelter. On top of starting this organization, my love for expressing myself through paints has evolved into a personal business “Amber’s Acrylics”. I make personalized paintings on anything from water bottles to jean shorts to glass windows for my town. My job at Expedition Coffee and position as AD Director for the school’s newspaper has made me involved in my community. Watching the toll COVID-19 has taken on the people of Red Bluff who have raised me is heartbreaking; therefore, W.S.W is working hard to support the mental toll the community is undergoing in the simple ways we can. My years of being team captain on the Volleyball team and helping the schools athletic trainer with taping, rehabilitation, and sport injuries at various sports games has taught me how to perform efficiently under pressure.
Currently, I want to pursue a major in Engineering of some sort, probably mechanical, civil or architectural. I've always gravitated towards creating things and since these careers involve a combination of creativity, physics and calc, I think I would enjoy them. I also was given the opportunity to work alongside my high school's Athletic Trainor. Working with him will be one of the most rewarding and fondest memory I will take from high school. Because of the sparked interest I took through that internship, I believe a future in Kinesiology my be a path I'll take.
I feel blessed to have had the opportunity to be considered by schools with strong athletic and academic programs. I am excited for my future and to get to know the people that will help me sculpt it as an individual and take my game to the next level.
