My name is Jayna Marie Lorenzo and I am a junior at Salesian College Preparatory in Richmond, California. As a child, I began wanting to play sports because my dad was an AAU basketball coach at the time. Watching basketball games and traveling to different tournaments heavily influenced my competitiveness and inspired me to become an athlete.
I started playing sports at a young age. I started running track and field when I was in 1st grade as well as starting basketball a few years later. I began playing volleyball in the fourth grade as well where I was able to use skills and techniques that I learned from the other sports in volleyball. I started playing club in 7th grade and fell in love with playing volleyball not only in school, but out of school as well and being able to travel to different tournaments and competitions. Eventually, I transitioned to playing volleyball full time.
As an athlete, I am constantly working to improve my game, whether it be analyzing video or taking time to make sure I nail my fundamentals and try new techniques. I always give my all and work hard in every single game because hard work will always beat talent. I am a well rounded athlete as well and have played almost every position in volleyball. I make sure to look out for my teammates because as a team, you win together and lose together and I always emphasize the importance of working together to succeed.
Off the court, I am the true definition of a student athlete. I am a diligent and hard working student and currently have a 4.3 GPA. I love to volunteer and I am currently part of our student government, SLAM, as well as a part of leadership teams of two clubs. I also volunteer at my local parish during the summer as well. I want to continue my academic and athletic journey and continue to grow to become the best student-athlete I can be.
