Hello,
My name is Macey Weightman. I am a high school sophomore at Ocean View Christian Academy. I love God, my family, and playing volleyball.
I have been playing volleyball since I was 11 years old. My mom saw a posting for a Starlings tryout at the local YMCA for girls 13-14. I made the team which was challenging at first, but I went to every practice and worked hard on my own. By the end of that first season, I was the starting opposite hitter and I have been in love with the game ever since. I have played for various clubs in my local area and have been with the Storm Volleyball Club last year and this year.
Both seasons with the Storm Volleyball Club I have been the team Captain. Last year, my primary position was libero, but I frequently played all around to be used as an opposite hitter as well. I am currently playing defensive specialist. This is an exciting season for me because this is the strongest club team I have played on.
On my high school team, I was a Varsity starter my freshman and sophomore years. Both years I played all the way around with my primary position being an opposite hitter. As a freshman, I earned the award of ‘Rookie of the Year’. In my sophomore year, I earned ‘Offensive Player of the Year’ and was named Local Athlete of the Week by the San Diego Union-Tribune.
In addition to playing on the indoor court, I regularly attend beach practice with Neptune Volleyball Club for conditioning. This helps improve my all-around skills and ability to assess the opposing court to make smart plays. I feel that my strongest position is libero, but it really doesn’t matter to me where I am on the court as long as I am on the court playing hard and helping my team.
While volleyball is very important to me, in my parent’s eyes sports and other activities come second to academics. Getting good grades is a priority and I currently carry a 4.0 GPA. My favorite subject is math and I intend to pursue a college major in mathematics. I also really like working with people and helping them. During summer break, I volunteer as a counselor for Vacation Bible School at my church. My long term goal is to be a high school teacher and possibly coach volleyball.
Thank you for reading my profile.
