Ever since I can remember, I played soccer. I know what you are thinking-What is this girl talking about? Doesn't she play volleyball? I do play volleyball, but soccer was a huge part of my life that prepared me to be the best athlete I can be. Soccer is an intense sport, and I exclusively focused on it year-round at a highly competitive level. Late eighth grade I resigned from soccer and began trying other athletic activities. After leaving the only sport I had ever played, I set out on a mission to try as many sports as possible; it was clear to me volleyball was my true love.
In addition to playing sports the entirety of my youth, I have also played the cello. In fourth grade I joined the school orchestra and began taking private lessons with this beautiful instrument. Music has not only been a huge relaxing factor when school gets overwhelming or frustrating, but has also benefited my athleticism, keeping me calm and focused on the task at hand.
Now, you may be asking yourself why I am telling you all this non-volleyball-related information? It is because I want you to know the things that make me who I am and why I am so driven to always try my hardest, on and off the court. In all of my experiences, whether in soccer, orchestra, or volleyball, I have learned that a successful leader continually lifts the team when we are down and pushes to do better when we are up. I am not a person who is easily riled, there is always going to be a mistake on the court, but I try to limit them for myself and the team. If a bad situation happens, I encourage the team not dwell on the mistake, but keep moving forward. My goal is to be the best I can be, and set an example through my actions for the rest of the team.
As I look toward college, my goal is to find a place where I can contribute the qualities I have learned throughout my experiences, become an integral part of a connected volleyball team, and achieve my academic aspirations.
