This is a different type of statment than the typical personal statement, but let me introduce myself as who I am not what I am. My name is Breea Miles and my strongest characteristic is leadership. When I was eight years old, I started a small bakery business to sell homemade breads in order to support my sponsor child in Peru. That in turn spurred my desire to succeed through helping others and becoming a self motivated leader. When I was in Jr. High, my desire to be the leader of the volleyball team blossomed and my coach made me the captain of my team, who played every play of every season. The challenges, I have always volunteered to take on, have developed my ability to suceed in adversity, remain calm in stressful situations and overcome when the task looked insurmountable. Last year my club volleyball team became a division 1 team by the end of the season in which I was tasked with leading the team through tough battles all the way to the top.
In addition to being a leader and encourager to my teammates, being an athlete that plays all the way around has afforded me the ability to hone my skills as a passer, a setter, a server, a hitter and a blocker. While setting is my main position, I am confident in the skills and abilities I have attained in the other positions. These have allowed me to earn the trust of my teammates which have created deep bonds so that we can battle through any adversity together.
Another character trait I have that helps me gain success on the court is the way I care about others. My teammates and coaches know that I care about them and I will always put them before myself. I believe this too helps us bond as a team and has helped us to have success and enjoy every moment of our volleyball experiences.
Volleyball is my passion. I push myself to work harder than anyone and be the best teammate and leader I can be. When it comes time for coaches to make decisions for tryouts, I am the first selected to be on the team because of my leadership, work ethic, coach-able personality, dedication, and ability. No matter the skill level of my team, I will play my heart out because of my love for the sport.
