My name is Ava Bernstein and I am in the class of 2023 at Spanish River High School in Boca Raton, Florida. I started playing volleyball at Boomers Volleyball Academy in Pompano Beach, Florida when I was 13 years old during a very challenging time in my life. Since I was 2 years old, my dad was in and out of hospitals. Even though my dad was rarely able to attend my games, he was an extraordinary athlete who inspired me to always dream big and work hard. My dad passed away last year after a hard fought 13-year battle with cancer in which he was a champion and a fighter to the end.
Volleyball has been my safe haven during these years. When I am not practicing with my team, I am putting in extra hours of pushing towards my goal--to be the best I can be. I genuinely love the game, the competition and team camaraderie. I am upbeat, focused and a huge cheerleader for my teammates on and off the court.
As a libero for my club team, I am aggressive, vocal and agile. However, I tend to be hard on myself and am using that in a positive way to find ways to always improve my game. I have been told that I am very coachable.
Although I love being a Floridian, I also love the change of seasons. I am open to different school possibilities. The one thing that I am sure of is that I would like to play on a competitive team with girls who value a strong team bond and respect each-other. As far as a major, I love sports as well as helping others. I am looking at options and by the time I am ready to enter college, I will have a much better idea.
