I am very passionate about my volleyball - my goal is to play volleyball at college while pursuing my degree.
As a Junior at Spanish River High School, I am enrolled in the entrepreneur program and have been taking AICE business classes and other Honor level and AP courses. This year, I qualified for DECA ICDC Nationals in the Hospitality and Tourism Research Operations category. My business plan was one 6 selected from the state of Florida for the National competition. I have not decided what I want to study in college at this time but am leaning towards Business Marketing/Entrepreneurship. I know no matter what I choose to study, I will need to be as passionate about my studies as I am in volleyball to be successful.
As a player, I have played Libero for the past fouryears and I love this position because it gives me the opportunity to be a leader on the court. As a Libero, I am able to use my leadership skills to pull the team together, and to motivate everyone on the team and to communicate so we can all play our very best. This year I was selected Co-Captain of Spanish River’s JV team and led them to a successful year and winning record. I have been a leader off the court as well. In the eighth grade, I was elected President of the student body and I have been very active in the SGA Leadership and the DECA programs at SRHS.
I am extremely hard working and love being challenged. I have worked diligently with private coaches on my fundamentals in addition to regular team practices. I enjoy learning new things to help me become a better player and a better person. I always give 150% effort at whatever I do. In addition to working with private tutors on and off the court, I also work with a speed and agility coach. Because I am only 5’3” , I feel like I have to work extra hard to achieve my goals - but what I lack in height I make up in tenacity.
On the court, I am not easily shaken. Over the years of playing, I have learned to stay focused and, moving past a lost point is critical in order to stay the course and win. It takes discipline and confidence, two things I try to bring to my team. I also understand the value of a team and I know it takes all of our different skills on the court to win. That’s why it’s called teamwork. I love being part of a team. I started swimming competitively at 6 and by the time I was 10, I was one of the fastest swimmers in Florida but I missed the team aspect of the sport and that’s when I turned to volleyball.
Off the court, my parents have taught me to do my best and to give back to my community. Over the years, I have given up my elective time to help tutor younger students, spent days gathering, packing and delivering Christmas boxes to underprivileged children in other countries as well as worked on mission farms to pick food for the less fortunate. In addition, I have served as a camp counselor and thoroughly enjoyed working with kids.
I hope to bring this passion and dedication to a college program one day.
