I knew from a young age that I wanted to play a sport at the collegiate level. I have always said that sports are my thing. I love competing! I love that I am a better athlete than most boys I know. And I would look at the opportunity to play at the collegiate level as an honor.....one that I realize only a very small percentage of student athletes are allowed the good fortune to do.
My family has always been instrumental in guiding me on the right path. From a very young age they have instilled in me the same Christian values that I will hopefully someday pass on to my own children. Those values have helped in all aspects of my life, including relying on my faith to help guide me. I also consider myself to be a winner, which is something else that was instilled in me from a very young age. And I believe that to be a winner, you have to behave like one in all aspects of your life.
What coaches say about me is that I play like a boy! What coaches really like about me is my true understanding of the game (no matter what sport I am playing) and my positive attitude on the court. In addition, I have always had very good work ethic. My physical attributes are athleticism, quickness, and strength. My character traits are self respect and being mentally tough. My dad taught me that. He always told my brothers and I not to get down on ourselves if we made a mistake. Errors are inevitable. But if we turn around and make a great play afterwards, no one will remember the error. It is all of these attributes together that gives me the ability to execute on the volleyball court and in life.
It is because I am an over achiever that I strive just as hard in the classroom, as I do on the volleyball court. I sustain a tough schedule of all honors and AP classes where I study hard and maintain a 3.7GPA. Beyond that, I plan to stay on the same honors/AP track for my senior year.
I am a member of two leadership organizations at school.....both of which the school faculty selects the members. My teachers and peers respect me because of the way I live my life. I would definitely consider myself to be much more of a leader, not a follower. Outside of school, I am very active with my Girls' Bible Study Group, including a week long mission trip to the Dominican during my summers. I try to always help and influence others in a positive way.
Ultimately, I would like to find a college that will challenge me in the classroom, as well as on the volleyball court. My plan at this time is to study either criminal justice or education, followed by seeking a graduate degree in either psychology or more specifically sports psychology. I can't remember a time in my life that I was not playing a sport at a high level. For many years now that sport has been volleyball. I hope I can earn the opportunity to continue to play throughout my college years.
