I fell in love with volleyball my freshman year of high school. Unfortunately, I live in an area where volleyball was not offered in my middle school or a community center. As a matter of fact the HS volleyball team was only a year old when I was a freshman. But that did not stop me from trying out and winning a spot on the JV team in my freshman year. The teams we competed against had more experienced players and they were good. I realized what I needed to do to compete and I made it happen. I joined a club ball team and worked really hard so that when I tried out my sophomore year I was able to land a spot on the Varsity team. Our team had a great season by coming in 2nd in our region and making it to the Elite 8. It was at this time that I knew I had to play college. This is my dream and in order for me to meet my dream, I had to keep working and pushing myself. I played club ball that season and then during the summer (during COVID) I trained with a personal trainer for strength, speed and agility and I trained with a volleyball coach. I am currently on my second season with the HS varsity team. I take weight training and go to Fury Academy for training on speed and agility. My goal this winter will be to obtain a spot on the A5 club volleyball team. I am in a STEM program and ranked 27th out of 222 students carrying a GPA of 96.6. My studies include honors and AP classes. I plan to major in Nursing and then get my Master’s in Nursing Administration or Pediatric Nursing.
On the court, I am a competitive person. I believe in my team and I encourage my teammates to do their best. Making mistakes is hard, but we have to encourage each other to do our best and to give it our best. I am a naturally loud person on and off the court, I have a deep caring for people and I try to give it my best everyday. There have been times when some players and coaches say that I’m not good and I could never make it to college volleyball, but I am refusing to let their comments define me and stop me from my dream of playing college volleyball. I have learned that I have a drive and I will work hard and win!
