I envision my time in college to be a personal growth period, both in academics and in my volleyball career. I am still in the process of deciding on a final major for myself, but some of my goals are to explore an athletic training path, or possibly veterinarian school, so I plan to focus on a science core which will serve me well in either major. One of my other interests is art and I am also entertaining the idea of choosing a design major. I want a school that will fit me both academically as well as personally, where I can flourish throughout my academic career.
On the court, I will continue to be a dynamic player, a positive influence, and a great leader to my teammates both on and off the court. I have been playing volleyball for five years, four of those years I have played in a higher level club capacity. As I have grown both physically and mentally throughout my high school and club career, I have done my very best to strive to be an essential player all around the court. One of the things that I have learned about myself through the sport of volleyball is that I am not afraid of hard work and facing a challenge. I have had to face some adversity throughout the years and have often been underestimated by coaches who don’t know me very well. I have always taken this as a challenge to rise to the occasion and prove myself even more. During my season playing on JV, I was being played in more of a utility position. This was great for versatility, however I did not like being off the court when I was not being utilized. I went to my coach and asked her to consider me for a permanent spot after the second week of game play concluded. After our conversation, she put me into a central role on the offense as she had seen my performance both during practice and during games. I ended the season that year being pulled up to the Varsity team, was named the MVP of JV, as well as serving as a Captain. This was a great accomplishment for me as I learned that hard work and dedication are the keys to succeeding on the court, as well as in life.
I have very high expectations this year for both my Varsity and club seasons. I believe that with my hard work and leadership on these teams we could make a run at a state championship and on the club level, qualify to compete on a national championship level. Most importantly I will continue to conduct myself with integrity and always show respect both on and off the court. Knowing that a positive attitude and respectful actions will reflect well on my team, my coaching staff, and the school I attend.
