Yes, I am a 5'6" middle-blocker/right-side. I know that doesn't seem to make a lot of sense unless I also tell you that I live in Hawaii and I’m a little over average height here. While I've also played outside, my high school Varsity I-AA and club teams have asked me to play middle and right-side. As a team player, I'm happy to play positions usually dominated by really tall girls because it allows me to get more playing time and improve, in general. Of course, I work on my other skills, including passing and ball handling--which is what players from Hawaii are known for (again, height)--during practices. I consider myself a utility player and feel I’m very coachable.
I also paddle on the Varsity II boat for Iolani's girls outrigger canoe team and, similar to volleyball, enjoy the camaraderie of being one of six girls working together to win. There's no better feeling than having given it your all and winning.
I've taken a number of honors and AP courses and would like to study psychology, forensics, or behavioral biology in college and perhaps go to medical school. I'm interested in academically-strong small- to medium-sized colleges, with the opportunity to develop close relationships with professors, classmates, coaches, and teammates. I hope to make a positive impact on the volleyball team, whether by my play and support on the court or at practice. Thank you!
