Makela Pick '23 Recruiting Profile

Aloha, I am a senior (2023) attending Mid-Pacific Institute school in Honolulu, Hawaii. I've played on indoor club volleyball teams for the past 6 years. For the past several years I've played as an outside hitter playing in all 6 rotations. Our teams have traveled to Orlando, FL to compete in the AAU Junior Nationals as well as the USAV Junior Nationals. In July 2021 I also traveled to Pula, Croatia to compete in the 2021 Global Challenge international volleyball tournament with a team of elite athletes from Hawaii. It was a great experience to play with athletes that pushed me to play at a higher level. Our team represented Hawaii well and placed 2nd in the tournament. I love the sport and look forward to improving each season.

I've also played beach volleyball for the past 3 years with Hunakai Beach Club coached by former University of Hawaii Women's Beach Volleyball Assistant Coach, Danny Alvarez. My beach partner and I competed at the BVCA National Championship Tournament at Hermosa Beach, CA July 17-18, 2019 in the 14s division. We finished 9th out of 50 teams in the 14s silver bracket. In November 2019, my partner and I competed in the Hawaii Beach Volleyball State Championships and placed 3rd out of 18 JV teams. 

In addition to volleyball, I played on a club soccer team for a few years and in 2018-2019 I played for my school soccer team. I have also participated on our school track team for two years. In 2018, we broke the medley relay record and were the 4x400 ILH (Interscholastic League of Honolulu) Champs. In 2019,  we broke the 4x100 meet record in Trials. At the 2019 ILH State Championship I individually placed 2nd in the 200m dash and 4th in the 400m dash.
