Hello, my name is Kassie Collins, and I am looking to continue my academic and athletic endeavors at the collegiate level. I started playing volleyball in 7th grade and have grown into the sport as time went by. Originally, I had preferred track and field, but I fell in love with volleyball my freshman year in high school. Since then I have become extremely dedicated to making my team and my skills better. I am looking to become the best I can be, and I believe the I have a lot more to give. I continue to take AP courses to help me in my academic goals to become a Zoologist. I enjoy the challenge that athletics and academics have brought into my life.
I would add regarding my volleyball specifically, this past season of high school volleyball was my first year as a varsity player. I am a part of a pretty talented class and all of my other teammates played varsity as freshman and sophomores, but despite that I started every game and played all the way around. I would not say I was the "go to" hitter when up front, but I worked hard to fill my role with the team and help its overall success, even though at times it may have hurt some of my own statistics.
I also believe I have a better understanding than most as to some of the challenges of being a collegiate student-athlete as both my parents competed at the NCAA Division 1 level, my mom is currently the head athletic trainer at our local college and my dad is the head cross country and track coach at the same school. I have seen day in and day out throughout my life what it can be like within the college athletic arena.
My goals include earning a degree and preparing myself for graduate school and at the same time improving my volleyball skills so that I can be a contributing and valuable member of a successful collegiate volleyball program.
I hope that you will look at my profile and contact me if you have any questions. I am excited about the next step in my life and am looking forward to hearing from you.
