My name is Mia Asbury. I am a 5’9, opposite/setter, currently in my Senior year at St. Maries High School in Northern Idaho. I have been around the game of volleyball my whole life, since before I could walk I was at practices and games. It is all I’ve known. For as long as I can remember it has been my dream and goal to play college volleyball.
I have a strong work ethic that has been instilled in me since an early age. I thrive on finding the opponent’s weakness through my court awareness and volleyball knowledge. I have played various positions, where my coaches feel I best can impact the team. I have been an opposite and an outside hitter for most of my playing years. This past 2023-24 club season, I was asked to set, and it was a great experience running a 6-2 to be able to set and hit. It allowed me the opportunity, when asked by my high school coach this senior season, to take on the role of setter, with a 6-2, allowing me to be able to hit also. My growth in the game from playing the different positions has only helped me become a more well-rounded player, being able to offer colleges a depth of various positions played and the ability to adjust.
I work year-round on my volleyball skills, have been playing club volleyball since I was nine, and have been on the varsity high school volleyball and softball teams for four years (9th-12th grade). In addition, I also played basketball for two years (9th-10th grade). Being a multi-sport athlete has been a blessing. It has allowed me the ability to grow as an athlete, teammate, and leader.
I work hard to maintain my GPA. I challenge myself by taking honors and dual credit courses, including currently completing my clinical for my CNA (certified nurse assistant), all while being a student-athlete. In my sophomore year, I was inducted into the National Honor Society. I have also been involved in ASB (Associated Student Body) all four years of high school and am currently the ASB President. I am also a member of HOSA.
I want to attend a college where I am challenged to reach my potential both in the classroom and on the court. I want to play for a coach that sees my potential and pushes me out of my comfort zone to achieve the high expectations they have set and that I have for myself. I am open to all options and look forward to this process of finding the school that I am supposed to be at.
