Although the phrase ¨Work hard, play hard¨might have become a cliche it is very true whenever it comes to the court. Volleyball challenges me and I LOVE that. I am extremely passionate about volleyball and dream of the opportunity to play after high school. I thrive for the chance to dig up a ball that everyone assumed was a kill, closing the block for the giant stuff, jumping high, and crushing the ball. Most importantly, when a rush of adrenaline builds the intensity on the court, I want to be no place other than working with my teammates. The challenges that I am met with every time I get on the court are always thrilling to beat, especially when no one thinks that it is possible. Some challenges that I have faced were some of my teammates not having the same goals, and playing at a higher level than I thought that I could, but getting over the mental block.
From my experiences of playing all around the court, I know that the middle is very essential. A middle should know that the priority is the block, hence the name middle blocker. I know that I should work to at least get a touch on every ball that I can. I also know that it is my job to help the back row. As long as I can get a touch on the ball it is easier for the defense to get the ball up and in play. Although the block does not get all of the immediate glory, I really do enjoy blocking. My favorite feeling in the whole world is whenever I stuff the best player on the opposing team.
I recognize that life is full of challenges, but my experience with volleyball has helped me focus on all that I do. I put my best effort into everything I do, including my academics and involvement in clubs. Most people would say that I am an all-around fun and level-headed individual. For this reason, I believe that no matter the situation that I encounter on the court, I can always count on my teammates and they can count on me. Together, we can accomplish what others may not think is possible. Through my 8 years of living and breathing volleyball, I have realized that if I am reliable, give each drill, practice, or game my all, and stick around for the long haul even when success seems so far away, my teammates will too. Talent isn't contagious, but character is. I'm excited to find a college that will continue to challenge me to become better every time I step on the court.
Thank you for taking the time to read my statement and view my volleyball profile.
