Being a Type 1 Diabetic has made my life different. I remember looking at my mom and saying, “Mom I will take care of myself.” This powerful, independent, sassy little girl could take on this disease one day at a time. Volleyball means something different to every athlete, but it means life or death to me. Volleyball is what gets me up in the morning, makes me exercise, go to school, and keeps my disease in check. I am not perfect, but I can guarantee the drive, compassion, and determination I have inside me makes me strive to get better everyday. I struggle with organization and keeping my life together, but my big personality shines through. I am a normal girl who lives her life a little differently from day to day, but loves to play the game of volleyball. Since starting my volleyball career, I have learned so many things about the person and athlete I am. I love cheering on my teammates and seeing them succeed, and volleyball allows me to be a part of another kind of family. Everyone calls me BK and volleyball has taught me that it’s okay to make mistakes and fail, and you have to learn from it and move on before it affects your future.
