Personal Statement

Since 4th grade I knew I wanted to play volleyball.  Given the privilege to be the manager for the junior high team, I was able to experience the high paced excitement and unpredictability of the game.  It was then that my passion for volleyball started and my love for the game emerged.  It only grew as I began playing volleyball in 5th grade.  Over the years I have worked to build my skills and become the best player that I can be.   While playing both school and club ball, I soon learned that strategy made the game and working on details made me a better player.  I’ve been a captain of the varsity team for three years and enjoy working to be a role model and leader to my teammates.  I love keeping the team in high spirits and focused so that we work better as a team.  I see myself as part of a team who works together by each person contributing and trusting one another to execute the strategy of the game.   I believe that strong academics are also important.  Not only are academics important to my future career goals but they contribute to my mental ability as a volleyball player; thinking quickly, making wise decisions, and thinking for the betterment of the team.  In addition to volleyball, I have played softball, served in officer roles in FFA, Key Club, 4-H, and my class.  While all these activities and academics keep me very busy at times, I have learned to balance everything and stay organized.  I enjoy doing many things because it has taught me leadership, dedication, and responsibility – traits that make me a better volleyball player.  I have always played up with higher level teams and look forward to the challenge of playing at the collegiate level.
