My name is Savanna VanHoy and I’m a 17 year old senior at Bedford North Lawrence High School in Bedford, Indiana. My primary position is SETTER. I am 5’-6” tall and weigh 120 lbs with an approach jump of 8-’9” and a block jump of 8’-5”. I started playing volleyball when I was 11 years old and I fell in love with the sport and I’ve been very passionate about it ever since. In the past, I also competed in travel softball and basketball, which helped me improve my mental focus, gain strength and quickness during the volleyball off season. I made the decision to narrow my focus and to play only volleyball so I could put all my time and hard work into becoming the very best I could be and now I play volleyball year round. As the setter, I am proficient in playing both the 5-1 and 6-2 offenses. Although my primary position has always been the setter, I have also filled in as the Defensive Specialist.
I’ve always pushed myself to excel and continually improve on my game. I make sure to put in the hard work and devote the extra time and commitment required to better my skills and help the team. I also bring this dedication and commitment off the court as well. I currently have a 3.4 GPA. I pride myself on being a good student and having the ability to balance my studies and my sport. I will graduate with and Academic Honors Diploma in 2019. To better myself over the summer months last year, I was one of only 20 youth selected from our county to take part in a leadership development program called Youth Leadership Academy that was sponsored by the Duke Energy Foundation. This opportunity not only helped me improve on my leadership abilities but it also refined my knowledge and career development, health and wellness, community services, and how our government operates.
In closing, these past few years I have been totally focused on and committed to working on continually developing and improving on my volleyball skills to bring me to one day playing at the collegiate level. With the passion for volleyball and the high academic standards I’ve placed on myself, I know I would be able to contribute to a college volleyball program and the surrounding community. I’m confident that I would be a great asset to your team by bringing to you my competitive skill level, enthusiasm, leadership, and a positive attitude. All I ask is just one chance to prove it. I look forward to speaking with you. Thank you in advance for your consideration.
