In the future I plan on attending college for nursing and to play volleyball. I became interested in volleyball when I was ten years old. Both my mom and aunt had played it in high school so they were extremely excited and supportive when I expressed my interest in it. This sport taught me various things about myself that has helped on and off the court. When I started playing in 5th grade I was the shortest and least skilled on the team at this time I began to understand the importance of hard work and persistence. Throughout the year I slowly improved. Although I doubted my abilities at times, I kept working hard, practicing extra at home and attending private lessons. Eventually my hard work payed off. This year I achieved the goal I made when I first started playing: I became a varsity starter as a freshman. Learning to be hard working through volleyball also helped me in academics. I have always been a smart student but when I began playing volleyball I realized that I could improve even more in academics through hard work. My grades went from A-B honor roll to all A's when I realized the importance of hard work and persistence when something comes hard to you. This year in school I am taking a Computer Science class where we learn how to code in Python. For our final project I was tasked with creating a program that simulated a game of craps. This assignment was very difficult for me but I worked hard on it and persisted until I was happy with the result. I learned that when something does not come easy to me I cannot just give up, I have to persist and keep going until I am satisfied with the result. I think this mentality helps me in volleyball as well.
