Personal Statement

Hello! My name is Chante Hardaway, and I am a 6’1'' MB/OPP in the class of 2022 from Iowa City, Iowa. I play for Iowa Rockets Volleyball Club out of Iowa City. For my high school team, I am a starting Middle blocker For club I am a middle blocker and Right Side.. Sports were never huge in my house until I started volleyball in 5th grade. I realized that I had found my passion right away. Whether it was the actual game of volleyball, the friendships made or just the overall excitement of tournaments I knew this is where I belong. Throughout my time playing volleyball, I have learned that to me it doesn't matter win or lose it, it matters who I am with. When my High School Team, Iowa City Liberty,  lost in the state championship match I wasn't completely disappointed. As a team we had all worked so hard through the COVID season and built each other up more than I have ever felt form a team. Even though we lost in the end, the time our team spent with each other whether working on or off the court was some of the best times I've ever had!

I am just as passionate about volleyball as I am about academics. I have a cumulative 3.8 GPA and have excelled in both Advanced Placement and Honors courses. This year I am  taking multiple AP and Honors courses to keep pushing myself academically. I would love to go to a college that meets my academic needs. I've always loved STEM classes and am looking to go into that field. Specifically something with Environmental health, whether that be through agronomy, environmental engineering or just environment science/biology. Ever since I was little I remember playing with bugs and out in the dirt and having the best time! I would love to pursue that as a career.

My most recent highlight tapes are linked above for your review. If you have any questions about my character, academics and skill set, feel free to contact Allie Kelly from Iowa City Liberty High School. I would love to hear from you soon to learn more about your program!
