My team is small, but our hearts, drive, and dreams are big. From a young age, I often felt I had no place, till I stepped onto the volleyball court in 6th grade. I found not only my place but a home and a family. Over the years, being a student-athlete has helped me step outside my comfort zone and create life-long relationships. Without volleyball, I would have not had a place to grow as a person. The sport has helped me through my lowest moments to my greatest achievements, but to achieve on the court I had to also achieve in the classroom. My first two years in high school I joined an accelerated program to be able to start college full-time my junior year and graduate not only with a high school diploma but associates degree in science. I began in the nursing program obtaining my Certified Nursing Assistant License, then switching to pre-med. My academic goal for college is to maintain a 4.0 GPA.
In my time in high school, my team has not won any big tournaments nor districts. I don’t see this as discouraging but encouraging. I have learned that there is more to a sport than a trophy. In the past three years I fortunate enough to be captain and lead my team and friends to improvement. Being their captain at our times of success and failure has taught me something I could never get anywhere else. I have learned the value of teamwork, commitment, perseverance, and heart on the court and in the classroom. I am looking for a program that will fit me well athletically as well as academically. I believe I do not only have the talent but the work-ethic, leadership skills, and heart to compete at the college level and creating a tremendous impact on your team.
