I‘ve played sports my whole life, but when I was 8 years old I got diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. This caused my life to be more difficult but especially in athletics. It has taught me to be more responsible, hardworking, and determined than other kids in all aspects of life including athletics and academics. Through all this, I have also learned to problem solve and think ahead which makes me a better athlete.
I learned about our school's volleyball team and immediately went out to buy a volleyball. I made varsity that year starting as a middle. Not having played before and being sent in to play at the varsity level taught me a lot. I had to learn how to develop skills quickly, in order to do that I had to be able to learn from my mistakes. Also, being able to take directions and apply it immediately was something I had to master. The next year I started playing club and made a club plus team. It really changed my perspective and seeing more advanced teams compete made me want to play at a higher level. Since starting volleyball I have wanted to play in college.
