Hi, my name is Sydney Sober. I am a Junior at Dulaney High School and will graduate in 2025. My primary position is DS/Libero. I joined my high school Junior Varsity volleyball team as a Freshman without any playing experience. My athletic background before was in Competitive Gymnastics. I competed as a gymnast since I was 7 years old, practicing and working out 9-12 hours per week. This experience prepared me to play volleyball even before I knew what a dig or a kill meant. Recently, I made the very difficult decision to retire from gymnastics to focus on volleyball. While gymnastics was an individual sport, I love the team aspect of volleyball. Trusting my teammates, relying on them, and feeling supported when I make an impressive save (or mistake) are all aspects of this team sport that I have come to appreciate.
In addition to playing on my High School volleyball team, I have also played for the Masters Volleyball Academy Travel team for the last two club seasons. I am currently on the 17 National MVA team. I have benefited from excellent coaching, private lessons, clinics, and summer camps associated with MVA. I participated in the Towson University camp program in 2022 and this past summer, I attended the Emory University Elite Prospect camp, the University of Maryland summer volleyball camp, and various Towson University clinics.
Watching my skills consistently improve over the last 2 years has made me realize how much I want to pursue my dream of playing volleyball at the collegiate level. My goal is to play for an athletically competitive and academically selective DII or DIII university. I have a 3.94 GPA in Honors classes. In my Junior year, I will be taking a rigorous course of Honors, GT, and AP classes. In college, I would like to pursue courses in the Health and Medical fields with an intended focus on Nursing or Dental Hygiene. Determination is something I value off and on the court and am always willing to improve my volleyball as well as academic skills.
