My name is Portia Strasburg, I am a 5'2" 125 lb, libero for Walkersville High School in Frederick County, MD. I have been playing on the varsity team since freshman year. Now going into my senior year, I am the starting libero and the team captain. During last years season I maintained the second highest dig average in the county (4.31 digs per set). Approaching my senior year I plan on holding this same standard for my self, as well as pushing myself to excel and become the strongest player I can be.
I first began volleyball in middle school. Since then, it has become a greater and greater part of my life, and I find myself increasingly dedicated to the sport. My dream is to play in college; I believe I am constantly improving and pushing myself to perform the best I can. Last summer, I attended a camp run by Pat Powers. The experience was very impactful because it helped me to think more analytically about the game and what I was specifically doing during and in between points. Not only do I regularly attend clinics, I've also participated in club volleyball for five years. As a member of my club's national team, I regularly participate in out-of-state invitational tournaments.
I've also grown as a team leader throughout my career. I always bring a positive mentality and can-do attitude. I'm determined to win and my teammates say that I always support the team and that I never give up. They say I am energetic, passionate and always have good sportsmanship. My coaches consistently mention that I have an open-mind, that I always give one-hundred percent in games and in practice, and have always contributed positively to the team. I will bring this same drive and spirit to college.
Not only do I focus on athletics, but I also hold high academic standards for myself. While sustaining an unweighted 3.5 GPA, I have challenged myself with both honors and AP courses. I'm a member of National Honors Society and intend to graduate with highest honors.
My experience, passion, and work-ethic demonstrate my commitment to success in my athletic and academic career now and in the future. I look forward to pursuing volleyball and scholarly excellence in college.
