Volleyball was not offered to me in middle school unlike some other school districts. However, I was very interested in the sport, therefore I signed up for some clinics in 7th and 8th grade so I could learn the basics of the game and how to play. Because of the clinics, going into freshman year I was very excited to play. I was really shy and nervous when entering high school but playing volleyball helped me make new friends and made me actually want to go to school. Throughout my high school years, playing volleyball has really been an aspect of my life that has shaped me into who I am and will be in the future.
Volleyball helped me come out of my comfort zone and learn so many knew things about myself. Before high school I was always the shy quiet girl who would only talk to some friends, but now I am more outgoing, passionate, and comfortable in being myself. I never would've thought my freshman year that I would become varsity captain my senior year with one of my best friends, that I meet while playing volleyball. The role of captain showed me so much about myself that I never knew; I can be a leader, a role model, a responsible and reliable person, and so much more. Volleyball has gotten me through things in my life that I was struggling with for a long time, it helped me get out of bed in the morning and helped me not lose myself. This sport means so much to me, and I don't want this year to be my last year competitively playing. It is my dream to play volleyball in college, and I am willing to work hard and do whatever it takes to continue my journey with this sport, because I know it is not over.
